Crystal Lamps Geometric Nets

A geometry net is a 2-dimensional shape that can be folded to form a 3-dimensional volumetric form. All of the lamps in the show were made from geometric nets, cut and scored out of foam board and then assembled.

Each example illustrates a different kind of crystal symmetry and is associated with a specific mineral. To make your own versions of the crystal forms in the exhibition, download the files here.

If you would like to 3d print any of the crystal forms in the show, you can download a folder of the models we used here. The files are presented in stl format and you can scale and print them as you wish on an FDM printer.

To print a hollow version like we presented in the exhibition, we used these slicing settings:

  • 0% infill

  • 2 outer shells

  • 3 layers on the top and bottom

  • .3mm resolution
